I have a 1970 9.5 Evinrude Sportwin that's been sitting for a few years.
I would like to know the procedure for replacing the water pump. I'm sure it needs to be replaced since it has not been run for a while. Thanks for any help.
You should attempt to get an OMC service manual for your specific model. Here goes though. You need to remove the leg by removing the 6 bolts. Drop the leg a wee bit and you will see the shift rod coupling. Completely remove the bolt and the lower unit will come right off. The water pump will be the first thing you see the drive shaft going into. Remove the four bolts and the pump will slide off. There is a very small pin that goes 1/2 into the drive shaft and 1/2 into the impeller to keep the impeller from turning on the drive shaft. Be careful not to loose it and make sure you use it. Remember the direction of the flywheel is clockwise the the impeller vanes ill follow in a clockwise direction. Here is a link that will be of help to see your model diagrams. Look for the 9.5 gear case. Best of luck. Rick. http://shop2.evinrude.com/ext/index.aspx?s1=bf6ad09c53cead335fcfd8a6471c0f7f
