looking to buy a searay sea rayder with 90 or 120HP sportjet.
Keep hearing there are troublesome units but newer units are better.
How do I tell if it is a newer good one?
Does XR mean it is better?

Moving to PWC questions. You'll get better responses there.

Re: sportjet reliability

the 90 and 120 are force engines actually converted from outboard engines to be used on jet drives, I owned one they are totally underpowered and have lots of stator issues plus lots of vibration unless you are getting it really cheep I would probably pass on that idea, plus the boats handle like a bath tub, my first one was a regal with a 90 hp force and that is why I invented steering for jet boats and jet skis driving the boat stock was a horrifying experience to put it bluntly

Re: sportjet reliability

Had a 90 and have to admit, it was under powered. Have a 120 X14 and has plenty of power to do what I want. Runs around 40mph and handles fine. The x16 with the 120 is a dog. The x16 with the 175 runs around 50mph but I still go back to the X14 with the 120. The engine is simple to work on and you can get to everything.
