Just got back from the maiden voyage, got a surprise bonus, my boys were free so we all went to the lake to test her out. While dodging the thunderstorms here in central NC, we had a few good runs on the tubing, but on the way in we lost power, good at low revs, cruising the no wake zone, but trying to power up it just sputtered.... just now rinsing out the bilge, there was a strong smell of fuel in the bilge... any ideas??? Supposedly the fuel lines were just replaced last year...

It sounds like fuel starvation, but the smelly bilge is throwing me off... Water in the gas??? how do I empty a 20 gallon tank??

Sport jet XR120 in a Sugar Sand Mirage....

These things always have a oil/gas smell in the bilge area .. normal . Did your engine start missing and running rough or did it just quit pulling the boat or did it just seem to loose power ? ,, How long had the boat sat since it was in the water and how old is the fuel ?

UPDATE:
OK so the first problem was easy to spot. Hook up the water start the engine and gas is just flowing out the upper carb... Turns out the nut holding the bowl on had come all the way out.... found it in the bilge which also was very gassey..... So that was fixed, but a similar problem took it's place.

After the engine is warmed up, it cant go WOT more than 20-30 seconds and it starts surging. It will cruise at 25 for a good bit longer but then too it starts surging a little. I checked the so called sediment bowl and strainer in the fuel pump and found it quite clean, but there didn't seem to be much there in the way of a strainer.....

Checked all the connections, had to tighten a few clamps but nothing obvious. There is a secondary filter between the fuel tank and the fuel pump, big oil filter looking thing, but it seemed OK,, so hard to tell with them though...

An odd aside, I noticed early on, before it started surging, that if I turned hard right the engine died momentarily, then came back to life...Left was fine, but right stopped the engine. Don't know if it's related or not.
