ok it was suggested to start a new thread. so here we go..
I just got a 94 bayliner jazz from my brother and im having trouble getting it started this season. i was told by a friend thats a mechanic to spray fogging oil in the intake for a bit (which i did) but i don't think that was a good idea.
the batter seems to be fine, it reads 12.4v all the time and has no problem turning the motor over (i think its only one year old). the gas thats in it: half is left over from last season, about 4-5 gallons was added from a can i found in the shed labeled boat and the rest i mixed 50:1 ratio of Premium 2-cycle outboard oil TC-W3.
when i go to crank it over i push in the the key and turn it part way a couple times(which im told does the choke). then i crank it over, but this never works, it won't fire on its own. then going on advise from my brother i spray starting fluid in the intake and crank it. this makes it fire but as soon as i stop spraying the motor dies. After doing this three or four times it will eventually run on its own in idle with no spray but with a cloud of blue smoke the size of the boat. so today(first time out this season) i get to the no wake buoy (about a quarter mile from the dock) and start the throttle forward and it dies and i have a hard time getting it to start and idle again. since spraying the fogging oil in the intake ive cleaned the spark plugs twice, fyi.
so whats the proper dewinterizing procedure?
what do you think is going on?
how stupid was i for spraying the fogging oil?
how do i fix it?
sorry for the life story, any ideas would be swell.
