I have a F16 searayder I picked up a little over a year ago. After carb rebuilds it runs great but now after 20 mins of run time I loose all spark. Let it sit for a week and it miraculously regains fire......15 mins into running....loose fire again.....would the cdi be the only culprit of this?

Re: sport jet 120 losing Fire

Post up year , HP and serial number of engine . Lots of tests we can do to isolate the problem . Also see the first post in this forum "Sport Jet Basics" and test what you can , Post results. If you have a 120 with a CDM ignition only do the first 4 tests and then only ohm the stator , the rest does not apply .

Re: sport jet 120 losing Fire

Thanks Kend301, It is a sportjet 120, 1995 model Engine Ser# OE134412. Also Im curious as to what the inline gellback component/adapter is that is inline of the green and green/white wire from the RED stator and comes out Blue and blue/white on the side to the CDI. Seems like all schematics leave this off. Is there a way to check this? all magnets appear to be in good order as well on flywheel.

Stator
Green to Green/white 1075

Trigger using white/black as ground
Brown 854
Purple ???
White ???
however as per book
purple to white 785
seems my cheap meter let me down if white/black as ground is correct or I found my issue? If all wires are being tested disconnected I assume having the battery out is not affecting me correct? If I am getting nothing on ohms. Will test with a better meter and post results ASAP.

Woops , sorry on a 120 you ohm the trigger by going from brown to white/black , your reading was good there then ohm the purple to white . Both readings should be between 700 to 1000 Ohms . Your stator reading should be between 500 and 700 ohms , Your stator is toast if you have over 700 ohms . Re check the stator and post results but that looks like it is it .

The extra box is the stator adapter , your boat came with the 9 amp black stator and the 16 amp needs an adapter to work properly

Also be sure you are testing between the box and the stator with the wires disconnected . If the stator is in spec then , unplug the blue wire from the switchbox , plug the stator wires back in and test connected , if readings are then bad again , post up and do not order anything I need to check one thing if this is the result .

Re: sport jet 120 losing Fire

Have you done the wire disconnect tests as outlined in the first post , "sport Jet Basics " ?? If you have and still have no spark , do a switchbox bias test.

1 OHM meter set to dc volts
2 Red meter lead to ground , Black meter lead to the white/black out of the switchbox.
3 Crank engine and post voltage reading .
