After breaking a shear pin, and then another, and then another without having hit anything at all, I started to worry. When I inspected the plastic cone shaped prop nut, I found that is is cracked and will split open under pressure. This was causing the nut to slip on the threads and the shear pin to break due to the lateral play in the prop.

On to my question. Can I use any castle style nut to replace this or do I need to replace it with the plastic cone shaped nut that costs about $30.00?

If I need to stick w/ the original style, do any of you have suggestions on where to find a used one for less than 30 bucks?

Thanks in advance!

Be sure to us the correct drive pin # 0307949 and the Propeller Nut #0305469 [SS 0390716].

When the propeller is mounted correctly it should have no play or it will break the drive pin.

The 18 was subject to the same problems as the 20 in the attached service bulletin.

Check with sea-way.com for the parts and pricing.
