splicing a transducer cable

Looking at a new combo chart plotter/sounder. I have a quality dual frequency "shoot thru" the hull transducer in place. Can I splice into the existing cable for a new unit?
What are the ramifications (did I spell that right?) of doing this. Appreciate any help.

Transducer cables can be spliced but have you verified that the existing xducer is compatible with the new unit?

Yeah, as Bhile says, it's not likely that the transducer will match the new unit. It's called planned obsolescence! And wait till you see the price of the new Xducer!!!!!

Re: splicing a transducer cable

Unless you have a proprietary Lowrance 192kHz transducer pretty much all the transducers supplied by major electronics manufacturers are made by the same OEM. Most if not all of them with a common frequency are also interchangeable with the exception of the connectors.

The only problem you may run into is if you have one of the new digital machines that ae capable off pushing a 1KW or 2KW transducer and you only have a 600W transducer. The new digital machines will adjust the output to match transducer so even that's not a big problem but you’ll loose a lot of the machines capability by running it at the reduced output.
