SPL performance gains?

Hi. I was putting the engine on the boat today from storage and checking it out. After I hooked up the control I noticed that the throttle butterfly does not open all of the way, more like 1/2 of the way. I checked the OMC service manual and they say it should be all the way open. Could this mean the difference in HP? I always thought the "28" was just a number they put on it to indicate it was the stripped down model. Any ideas?

Yes, the butterfly should open 100%. If you're applying throttle from the remote control, I'd check the throttle cable for out-of-adjustment.

c/6
Hooty

Yeah, I think it needs to be adjusted because when I actuate the lever by hand the belcrank hits the stop on the block. So its not a control problem. Sounds good, its an easy adjustment.

Is the motor in forward gear when you do this butterfly check?
DHP
