Hi all - I have a 1980 wellcraft w/ a 305. Last season I had the boat out it ran fine. it has always been a lil slow getting out of the water figured the carb needed to be rebuilt. got the kit and rebuilt the carb. Had some trouble after putting it all back together with getting it to go. It would start and idle perfect but once load was applied the boat would just die. Checked all plugs and wires. Put the timing light on and the timing is right on 8deg BFTC. even checked compression that's all good. So went back to the carb and started adjusting idle air mixture. I know where they were before messing with them.
Anyways no matter what I do with the idle air mixture she always does the same thing. Goes into gear fine but when you give it gas it wants to die. have to really play with the throttle to get it to go. Push the throttle all the way down and she really bogs down but does go down the river. This boat would go 40 mph just fine last season now cant get above 35. And she wont go to WOT. If I have the throttle all the way down she seems like she is really struggling. however when I pull back the throttle a lil she jumps like you gave her nitrous. And if I hold at WOT and slowly let of to about 75% she really jumps out of the water but then right back to struggling.
Any help or advice is as always much appreciated.
Thanks B
