What spinnerbait blade or blade combos do you use for BASS fishing?I really don't have much luck with them but when I use a spinnerbait it's a Single No.4 or a DOUBLE WILLOW LEAF.

Howdy, Bug.

Except for musky, I always use a single Colorado blade. Different sizes and weights to reach different depths and to fish for different fish.

I have no Ph.D. in bassology, but it is my firm belief that what you cast doesn't matter nearly as much as where you put it.

Good luck. :)

Re: Spinnerbait Blades

ChugBug,
It depends on the situation. When fish are very active almost any spinner combo will work.
In the early spring I usualy throw a 1/2 oz with a large colorado (Thumper),Bass in the spring have a low metoblazim rate and usualy wont exert a lot of energy chasing small baits, the 1/2oz also go deeper have a lot of viberation and are easy to slow roll. If the water is clear willow blades work great, they have more flash but less vibration.
In the summer I like to use a Colorado/Willow combonation. Early in the morning before the HOT sun bakes everything I use a 1/4oz spinner with a chartuse colorado and a white willow and a chartuse and white skirt. The 1/4oz is easy to run just under the water surface making a bludge in the water. When it heats up I go deeper and look for structure.
You can use smaller baits in the summer also and at times the smaller baits work better. When the fishing pressure is high a downsized bait might be the trick.

:) Thanks for some of the tips. Here in EASTERN OHIO we some very tough fishing.I'm going tonight with some co-workers and I know I will be the only that will try a spinnerbait. The best time up here is a 1/2 hour before the sun sets after that you might as well put the spinnerbait back in the tackle box. :)

Re: Spinnerbait Blades

Chugbug,
Have you tried using dark colored spinner baits at dark. Black and Red with a large black Colorado blade works well at night. You can also add some rattels to it like the ones on bass jigs. The large colorado blade gives a pulsing viberation that the bass can chase at night. The dark color makes a silhouette against the sky even at night unless it is very dark outside. Try keeping the bait near the top, during the summer bass feed a lot at night because the water temps. begin to drop and the move up to shallower water in search of bait fish. :D

I like the mepps spinners....The colors depend on your conditions....If you need it, they probly got it....They also work well in saltwater for reds....Gold blade with a chartruce skirt....its a killer.

Derwood.

I used Mepps for years and the local stores quit carring them. It was a safty pin style spinner. I loved those spinners. They were real good. Now I use WarEagle, Hart's, Terminators, and custom made spinners.

BKELLEY:Always bass-smallmouth and largemouth.Saugeye were hitting a week ago but not last night. The hot bait for us now is a NO.11 RAPALA JERKBAIT.We use and try anything. The smallmouth were hitting good before the heat wave.If you could find a map of Ohio look at the
east side. You will see Piedmont,Clendenning{The dead sea},Leesville{big muskie lake  },and Tappan Lakes. From lake to lake is about 6 to 8 miles. There is good fish in there but you got to get out there more then once a week and with a family you just can't get out enough.
