Is it possible to install aspeedometer on a 25 ft pontoon with a 90 hp 3cyl merc and what would be the best way to do it.

Re: Speedometer

You sure can add a speedometer. Your motor may have a connection for the pitot tube or you can use the pitot that comes in the speedometer kit. The kits come with everything you need including instructions on how to install it. They are available many places including iboats.com. Easy yo install.
You might want to consider a GPS. They are useful for navigation and tell the speed you are going in relation to satellites. they will tell your real speed on the planets surface. For example if you are heading directly upstream in a 10 MPH current, and your speedometer says 20 MPH, the GPS will read thet you are going 10MPH. Good for figuring ETA. Likewise if you turn around and go downstream in the 10 MPH current with 20 MPH on your speedometer your GPS will say 30 MPH.
A GPS will also guide you back to the dock.

Re: Speedometer

Since this speedometer will be on a pontoon, you don't need one that reads 60 MPH. Get one that reads to 30 - 40 MPH as most of the time you will be under 25 MPH. Speedometers calibrated for higher speeds don't begin to move until you reach 10 MPH or so.

Re: Speedometer

Thanks for all the info. I ordered one that reads 5 to 35 m.p.h. thats faster than the pontoon will go. Still thinking about the G.P.S. Thanks again.
