When I put the boat in storage last fall, the speedometer was working fine, and was at 0 when I put the tarp on.

This spring, I found the speedometer stuck at 45.
When on water, the needle moves higher, like 65, but I'm only at 30 or so.

I removed the gauge and used carefully some compressed air, and made it move to the max, but it always come back to 45.

What would have caused this situation only by standing there during winter? (Montreal)

The casing seems glued so I doubt I can open it.

I tried something this morning.
I applied vacuum with a hand pump to the gauge.
It went down to near zero.
But when I released the vacuum, it came back to 45.
I wished that the vacuum would have bring it back, but no luck this time.

your two choices

buy a new pitot tube speedo or send yours in for repair

they are fairly easy to fix, you just need the right tools.

my two recommendations are Speedometer Service Co in Milwaukee WI, or D&D instruments in Minneapolis MN

You mean easy to repair for a specialized shop?
Because the rear panel is glued or melted to the case, and the front glass is really well glued on.

Yes, I would like to have it repaired, but I'm afraid that if I don't know the reason why it froze, it may break again.
My pressure tube seems to be in good condition, and there is no water pooling on the floor.

sometimes things happen, and yes, send it in to a good shop that has tools (caution, it may be cheaper to buy new)
