Re: speedometer stopped working

Thier should be a water pick up on the outer transom and a plastic tube that connects and goes threw the transom to the inside of the boat and the other end should connect to the back of your speedo.

It could be plugged up.

I just repaired my speedometer tube because it had a hole in it. Actually, it looked like something chewed on it, possibly muscrats. Luckily, I had enough slack in the tube that all I needed to do was cut off the chewed part (about an inch from the pick-up) and reconnect.

My speedometer sucks on my barge.. Sometimes it works.. Sometimes it doesn't.. It's not very accurate anyhow.. We just take the GPS out with us...
I have the pilot tube type too..

on my 1007 bayliner capri 2050 LS,
wow, bayliner sure has been around a long time. sine 1007..

'if' ya got the pitot design. on my last boat, it'd (the pitot tube) get flipped up sometimes. i assume from hitting unknown debris on the lake. flipped it back down and it'd work again.. sometimes had to clean the debris out of it too though.

O.P. has a 2007 model boat with an Alpha 1 Gen 2, he's got the pickup tube intergrated into the drive, just like my Bravo photo.

On my previous 3.0 I/O the speedo stopped working after I whacked a soft submerged log and plugged that little hole in the leading edge of the outdrive with debris. Cleaned it out with a pin and all was good again.

Considering the accuracy (or lack thereof) of speedometers on boats, I wouldn't waste any time or $$ on repairing or replacing it. Get yourself a GPS, and you will actually know what your speed (over land) is. Boat speedometers are inaccurate even when they are working properly, so what's the point?

Wishing to keep it original, plus the gauge looks pretty when light up at night! :D

Same with my boats...if you snag a weed or something , the tube is designed to swing up as opposed to breaking. And yeah , that would be a really really old Bayliner......biblical even....lol

Re: speedometer stopped working

I have the same problem on a Bravo III. I see the tube and the opening it is supposed to attach to but the barbed end for the hose connection is broken off. How do you get the fitting out to replace.
I too am a newbie trying to learn about this boat (96 sea ray sundancer)
Appreciate the help.

Re: speedometer stopped working

Mine did not have a barb that was detachable, I had to replace the hole thing.
I boats sells them and you'll pay more in shipping than the pitot costs.
Hopefully theirs a boat shop around you.
