My speedometer must have some dirt in the line because it will not work. The shop said they cleaned it out, and it worked for one day, now it is not working again. This is 1997 Merc 4.3L. Can someone please walk me through how to clean the line? Thanks!

Remove the line at the speedo head and blow air through the line. If you don't have access to a compressor, by a small can of compressed air at any dept store.

One more thing, I assume this is an alpha drive. The pickup for the speedo is integrated into the drive. With the boat out of the water tip the drive all the way up. Look on the leading edge of the drive, just above the antiventilation plate, there is a small nylon tube. It is secured by a twist lock connector and can sometimes come apart on its own. If it hs seperated just reinsert it and twist(only goes about 1/8 turn) If it still connected, disconnect it then blow air down into the connector that is attatched to the drive. Then boow air into the hose from the speedo end, this will clear all lines for your speedometer.<br />Good luck
