Speedo tube in Mercury 150XL

Have disconnected lower unit (gearbox/housing assembly) on my Mercury 150XL to replace it and i have noticed what i can assume is the speedo tube that appeared to go into the back end of my lower unit - right behind the shaft and impeller housing.

I couldn't see a way to disconnect this, it looks sealed - If i get a new lower unit - should i be able to install this tube back into the lower unit?

Well, Speedo tube should be on leading edge of gearcase. There also should be a plastic splice somewhere(likely a plastic barbed double male), as it is made to be disconnected, when the gearcase is dropped.
