HEY PEOPLE,

I'M NEW TO BOATING AND AM LOOKING AT A 1990 SPECTRUM, 19 FOOT ALUMINUM BOAT WITH A FORCE 90 HP OB. IT HAS A NEW CANVAS CAB, 3 SEATS, OPEN BOW, LIVE WELL, FISH FINDER, KICKER PLATE, GALV TRAILER. IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S IN VERY GOOD CONDITION AND THE DEALER SAY'S IT RUNS GREAT.( I HAVE NOT RUN IT MYSELF YET.) DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY OPINIONS ON THESE BOATS AND FORCE MOTORS? THEY'RE ASKING $6700.00. DOES THIS SOUND REASONABLE? IT WILL BE USED MOSTLY AT A COUPLE LAKES AND BOTTOM FISHING ON THE OCEAN. ANY INFO WOULD BE HELPFUL. PLEASE HELP!

THANKS

JESTER

Re: Spectrum, any good?

I got my 1996 17'Spectrum with a 75HP force for 4000$ this summer. Needed battery and had to rebuild the engine due to lack of matenance(plus 450$ and 30 hrs. my labor).
It's worth 5800$ according to marine NADA book. I love the boat but Force motors need TLC. Does the boat have a maintanance record?
Do a compression check to the motor B4 buying.
Should be around 100-120 psi on ALL cylinders. Check the starter, are the bearings loose? When was the impeller last changed? Look at the plugs, if new be wary...
Do a search for "used boat prices" and it will turn up a few sites that list it's worth with whatever optional equiptment you have on it. Seems to me 6700$ is a premium price but???
