There were three 40hp models in 1964, RD-26, RDS-26 and RK-26.

They shared the same 3-3/16" X 2-3/4" 2 cylinder, cross flow block.

Ignition was by dual Phelon type magneto; points set at .020, Champion J4C plugs gapped at .030

Compression on a healthy engine might range from 80 to 125psi, depending on the guage, conditions and technique, but the cylinders should fit within a 10% spread.

OMC specified a fuel mix of 24:1, unleaded regular and TC-W3 are appropriate.

Good luck. :)

The fuel/oil mix was 50:1 for 1964. That was the first year for that mix.

The Johnson Service Manual for 1964 and earlier models and the Glenn's Johnson Motor Repair and Tune-Up Guide specified 24:1.

RD engines later than the RD-14, and the RK engines did have "frictionless" bearings throughout, so it is probably safe to use a 50:1 mix, but do it at your own risk.

I have not seen an OMC document that said 50:1 for 1964 engines.

Well I screwed up. I mistyped the year. It is 1969. I will post another topic so that there is no confusion for other iboats readers who look up this topic for 1964.

I am so sorry I screwed this up.

mmaddox

It happens! Don't sweat it. The good thing is, all the info stays the same for the 1969 Model. Plug, Gap and 50:1 mixture still hold true. Good Luck,
