special tools for rebuilding IL6

63 Merc. 1000 IL6 <br />I may rebuild but not sure of special tools that manual calls for. Only one that I am not sure of is the (upper & lower)bearing puller. Can this tool be bought cheap $25 and where can I get it. The other tools seem normal for this type of work and I can make them or find them somewhere. If I am wrong about my assumption please let me know.<br />Thanks for any and all help!<br />mudrow

You will also need special ring compressors and a whole lot of patients.<br /><br />DHP

Ussally a little heat and they will tap off, use care not a 3# hammer

Manual says to use fingers if not compressor. I have not found oversized pistons. Is it just the rings that are oversized? No! Huh? If you know where to get pistons oversized. Manual says to change only one if others check out but I doubt they will. <br />Thank you Laddies and DHPMARINE

If you need to rebore you need pistons and rings, those old engines will run with alot of taper and out of round, not the best thing to do but most of the time if the skirt clearance is not to bad you can save it---Bob
