My 1989 Merc 80hp 3 cyl came to me from its previous owner with NGK BUZHW-2 plugs fitted. These, I am told, are high resistance plugs.

I have had problems starting the engine when warm. I have reverted to BUHW-2's but have yet been able to test the engine. Would this make any difference?

Why would the previous owner wish to use these high resistance (and expensive) plugs when the recommended plugs are BUHW-2. (I am assuming this was deliberate rather than a mistake.)

Anyone got any views ??

Re: Sparky problem

ahm,
You posted this yesterday. I answered the best I could. Did you read it? You didn't post any reply.
http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=25;t=000241

Today you post almost the same questions again as a new topic.
Why don't you post the previos owners phone number and I'll give him a call. If he tells me why he made this choice I'll let you know.

Re: Sparky problem

Thanks Bear but I was hoping for more responses. You repeated what I had already said I knew ie the recommended plug was BUHW-2. You puzzled me slightly when you said the alternative quoted was the BUZHW-2 which is not quoted in the handbook or the service manual for this engine.

I still want to know the practical difference between the two plug types and the effect on the engine operation.

Thanks for your response though, I wasn't ignoring you. My apologies if you thought I was.

Re: Sparky problem

Sorry folks to have to nudge my question up the list, but I was hoping for some of you spark plug experts out there to be able to help me. I have written to NGK but they have yet to reply to me.
