1995 Mercruiser 3.0lx with an open cooling system.

I recently replaced the factory plugs with a cross-referenced Bosch platinum plug. Does anyone know if there is any danger of using this type plug? I was told older merc ran at very high temps and required special plugs. The plugs I remove looked pretty basic and were original. Any information is appreciated.

Hi

The plug recommended for this engine from the merc lidt is the AC Delco MR42LTS

I bought the R42LTs and they seem to work but there is a cross reference to the champion RS12YC

which i've also used sucessfully
I've never tried the boch cause they didn't seem too good in my car .. The champions worked best for me and my 3.0lx

http://realbig.com/detomaso/1997-07/234.html

any brand of plug will work in your engine as long as it is the proper heat range and it is gapped to the proper spec. the only problem you may have is it may rust faster on the nut because it wasnt designed for the marine enviroment unless the nut is a stainless housing. good luck ya mon
