Spark plugs and idle

I have a 78 235hp evinrude i was idling perfect at 900 in neutral and 650 in gear. I put in new spark plugs and the idle picked up to 1200 in neutral i tried adjusting the idle with the idle screw and the barrel wheel on the throttle cable and i could only get it to drop around a 100rpms. Timing is set at 8 degrees does anybody have any ideas on what else i could do to get the rpms down.

Post more info, is the engine new to you?
what is the service history etc.

What type of plugs did you install?

I have a 112 EV that idles then dies out what is my RPM supposed to be, please?
I have changed the plugs!

hawaiian girl, you need to start your own post. You will probably get better results that way.
