1991 Alpha1 4.3Litre. V6. I can't seem to get my spark plug socket on the plugs. Does the exhaust manifold need to come off?

I seem to remember instructions in one of DonS's posts in the adults only sticky at the top of this forum for modifying a sparkplug socket for this purpose. I modified mine that way and it works perfect! (basically grind the socket to a taper). Need to still be careful, though....if you arent straight-on, you can easily crack the porcelain (dont ask me how I know).

I was using a 6 point spark plug socket. The kind with the rubber insert to protect the plug.
I went with a regular 12 point 5/8 deep well and it slid right on, underneath the exhaust manifold.
Thanks bspeth and ktbarrentine

I have a standard 12 point 5/8" plug socket with the TOP ground to a taper, and the rubber insert removed (stops the problem of the cracked porcelain KB).... Works a treat.

I'm new here and just figuring things out. How do I post a picture? I do it on facebook all the time. I don't see an upload photo icon.

Photo uploads to iboats is one of the things that got gone in the upgrade, for the moment. Most of us upload to a photo sharing site, like Photobucket, and post the link here....
