I have a 70 johnson 60 hp and am having trouble findin wires around here. I was wondering if the only wires to use have to be 7 mm brass core or if I could use something like a 7.5 polycore??

I would suggest you stay with straight metal core. I wish i could find 8mm stainless core...

Use copper core wire, usually you can buy it by the foot at auto parts stores.

A 1970 60hp uses a solid core wire like Packard 440 athathas a brass threaded crimped end on it to screw into the under-flywheel distributor cap. You need the factory wires for that or buy the brass threaded fittings and crimp them on the the bulk wire cut to length. Most dealers should have a roll of that plug wire in stock.

You'll need a special crimper for the terminals on the ends of the wires that screw into the dist cap.
