I have a 1972 evinrude outboard 25 hp model 25202. I just bought a owners manual and read the plug type is a champion j4j. The replacement I have found for the no longer made j4j is the j4c. Are there other champion plugs that work also? I just bought the motor a couple weeks ago and changed the plugs but took old plug to store and bought the same. It's not a j4c. I want to say the plugs that were in the motor are like a rj12y or something like that. My question is --- is there more than one replacement for the J4J

Thanks.

Re: Spark plug replacement

Thanks. I'm going to get some and try it out. The motor is running great, but seemed to be lacking HP. I just got the manual. It also had a michigan prop on it but I couldn't find the size and pitch. The front of the prop had like 01012. Is that a 10inch 12 pitch. The guy I bought it off off also gave me a smaller one 9X11. I put this one on and it ran better and could tell rpms where higher. When I got the manual the correct prop is a 9X10. So now I have to find that prop and I think the rpms will be perfect. I know 1degree less pitch increases the rpms by about 200.

I have this motor on a duck hunting boat. It's replacing a 10hp 1956 sportwin
which is the best running motor I've ever had in my life. I'll keep this one for fishing in the spring.

Re: Spark plug replacement

don't buy a new prop....send yours out to a prop shop for repitching at about a 1/3rd the price(or less) of new
