2000 Mercruiser 4.3L EFI

I have Merc's manual 25 but can't find
which spark plug number to use. I would
like to purchase them prior to taking boat out
of storage.

Any recommendations on type/make would be helpful

Thanks :)

The AC MR43TS is the # for chevies Up to the intro of the Vortec Heads....
And, MR43LTS for the Vortec motors.......(which your's Should be)

AC uses an Alloy plug body... It Doesn't Rust.....

The NKGs noted by Chris is a Good Plug......

Personally,.... I Avoid Champions like the Plague........

Re: Spark Plug Numbers

They are Crap, no doubt about it. I have replaced more champion plugs with NGK or Bosch plugs to cure missfiring cylinders than I care to think about. (on Marine Engines)

I Guess it's a personal thing with Me.....
Anytime I've ever had sparkplug issues, it was with Champs........

Nowadays I use,
ACs for GM motors.....
Motorcraft/Autolites in Fords......
NKGs in Jap Iron......
Bosch in Euro Iron.....

And,.............. Champions in the Dumpster.................. ;)

"I Guess it's a personal thing with Me.....
Anytime I've ever had sparkplug issues, it was with Champs"

could that just be cos there are far more of em in use than any other plug.. ????

folks go by "names" some put more faith in em than others.. in todays age it can be a mistake cos the money makers know this..

i think NGK plugs probably cos they are/were japanese were better quality.. not sure if this still applies thow..

i would guess that the folks who knock champion plugs would also knock bayliner boats.. ford cars and pretty much everything else that didnt come with a good "name"..

all i know is it aint only garments that come with designer labels.. and the old adage "u get what u pay for" is total crap in this accountant run rip off age..

yep.. defintely an "oil" thread.. he he

trog100

Re: Spark Plug Numbers

I have to agree with Don and Bondo on this one. Binned more champs because of problem plugs than all the rest put together.....

Years ago Champion were a good plug, but like a lot of product at the top of the heap, didn't continue to improve their technology. Got left by the way-side by people willing to make a better product.

IMHO.

Chris...............

Re: Spark Plug Numbers

Trog, I know what your saying but Ive followed a number of these types of threads and once I start seeing enough people saying the same thing I tend to believe it. As Ive said Ive had no issues but why take the chance next time Ill opt for NGK. Then when I start a thread with my motors missing you will all know the plugs are fine ;)

Re: Spark Plug Numbers

I still use Champions in the BRP outboards...
Otherwise everything gets NGK...

I don't have any real facts or records to base it on, but everything sure does "seem" to be running better... I was hoping it's because I am a better mechanic than I used to be... now I know... it's the plugs!

(or the shoes maybe???)

Re: Spark Plug Numbers

put in whatever plugs are recommended by the manufacturer
the wrong plugs can cause a slight annoyance or complete engine failure, but the world is full of people who know more about it than the guy who built it
