Champion L77J4 gapped at .040 (according to Clymer). I seem to recall ODDD1 or 12Footer or Dhadley telling us that OMC had changed that to .030 after the Clymer book was published. What was your source, Vesselgreenhead??

Red sky. . . .
JB

Hey JB -- .040 is OK on L or QL77JC4's in motors that are set up to turn normal RPM (5800) at wot. I've had a lot of goog luck with these plugs. They are very forgiving especially if the rpm's are down or the octane is up.

Good luck!

Re: Spark Plug Gap Johnson 90HP

About 8 years ago OMC changed all the gap's from .040 to .030 and they retro'd it all the way back to the engines built in the 70's. To tell you the truth I've never seen it make much difference. Anywhere between 30 and 40 seems to work fine. If you set them to .030 it will take them awhile to burn open to .040.
