Spark plug deposit help please!

I had my 82' 25 HP Johnson out on the lake yesterday and lost one cylinder. I stopped and replaced the plugs and everything ran fine. However, on the top cylinder, there were some silvery metallic looking deposits all over the plug (I assume that's the one I lost). The bottom cylinder plug looked normal. The deposits looked like something that Silver Seal leaves in a car radiator. Several months ago, I accidentally ran the motor on one cylinder for several minutes. Could this be a result of built up fuel and oil finally being burned up? I'm running Penzoil synthetic blend oil. Should I stop using that oil? I am thinking of pulling the head to make sure there isn't any piston / cylinder damage. Any information you all might have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Hopper

Not a good sign..Like was said check the compression and hope...You are running 50/1 mix with a good grade of oil? Dont use the cheap fuel either..Detonation and preignition will also cause your problems. Also lean running carb will do it too.

Well I pulled the head last night.... Not good. The center of the top piston is fried!!! I got some pics and will start a new thread as I will be rebuilding this motor and want to make sure whatever caused this will be fixed and won't start over on my fresh rebuild.
Thanks for your responses!!!
Hopper

Re: Spark plug deposit help please!

Oh, btw - I did a compression check. 6 months ago it was right around 95 in each cyl. Last night it was 95 in lower cyl and 85 in upper cyl. The cylinder actually doesn't look bad. I use a good quality gas (Chevron) and run Penzoil synthetic blend TCW3 oil at a 50:1 ratio. I measure the oil in a ratio cup too so I'm not trusting the 16 oz bottles.
Thanks again for your help!

Hopper
