Hey guys , got a 88 Jonny 40 hp (J40TLCCS) I was just wondering what spark plug brand is preferred ? I am a Honda auto technician by trade and would never think of running anything but NGK in my cars so, naturally I put them in my boat too. I guess I never thought about it the other way around. I have not noticed any performance difference but maybe I'm missing something. My J/E service manual says Champ QL78C. Does anybody have any updated info or experience about this Thanks Keith.

Just like how your Honda's like NGKs, Johnny/Rudes like Champions. Go figure.
And they like them a lot better than any other plug.
I'm no fan of Champions generally, and I am a fan of NGKs generally, but I wouldn't put anything different in a Johnson or Evinrude.

Re: Spark plug brand preference

Hey guys, I went to the J/E dealer to get the proper plugs for my 88 JOHN. 40 (J40TLCCS). He didnt even hesitate and pulled out 2 L77JC4. I told him my factory manual said it called for QL78C. He said he had never heard of that #, and insisted he was correct without even looking it up. I was running NGK so I dont know what# came out. Any spark plug experts out there? Thanks.
