I have a Johnson 55 hp, not sure of the year but in the 1980's.
I was not getting any spark so I replaced the rectifier with a brand new one, got spark occasionally. I replaced the power pack with a new used one that works, got spark for only one coil (the top coil). Reversed the coils and the coil moved to top was getting spark but not the other one. Tried putting on my first power pack and got occasional spark. Put the other one back on and got occasional spark. Took apart and cleaned the stator, the wires coming out of it is getting juice, but only occasional spark just like before.
It's extremely frustrating. Hopefully somebody can help me out?

How can you buy parts if you don't know the correct yr?
Or the model number?

I don't know what your coil design looks like but can you switch the coil wires around or are they wired directly into the coil output.?

Talked to a mechanic last night about a similar problem I have, I have 6 cylinders, 3 are dead on one side.
He said the odds of 3 coils all going dead at the same time, on the same side is too much and advised I change the power pack.
I swapped coils side to side and the problem didn't follow the coils.

How certain are you that the used part you installed is ok?

Spark Issues - Johnson 40 hp

Spark Issues - Johnson 40 hp

I have this Motor Seahourse 40HP from my friend that didn't used it more then 6 years.
I got issue with switch to find keys , but found way to get it started and work.
It worked maybe 10 times when I plaied with the switch ( keys ) but then it stoped. I checked and found that not getting spark anymore.

I found manuals and checked the switching looks good, any ideas what next it can be ?

Thanks
