Just thought I'd throw this out there. Checking the ignition systems on these Force motors (actually, any outboard) is somewhat cumbersome at times. Holding the spark plug wire against the block to check for spark can be a shocking experience LOL. Grounding the CD modules when cranking to prevent possible damage etc.
Came up with a simple cheap rig to accomplish the task to minimize danger to CD modules and mechanic. Some of you folks probably already have a method. This is just another way that I thought I'd share. Cost me about $12.
It consists of a 1 1/4in wide, 1/4in thick piece of scrap metal bar about 8 inches long. Also available at Home Depot or Lowes. Wood gluing clamp (Home Depot $1.89). Battery clamp (NAPA $1.59). 14mm spark plug tap (NAPA $6.89). Piece of 10 gauge stranded wire.
Drill and tap four holes in the metal bar ( I have a 4 cylinder motor). Attach the 10 gauge wire to the metal bar and solder the battery clamp on the other end. Bolt the wood gluing clamp to the metal bar. To use, attach the battery clamp to an unpainted surface on the block. Install the spark plugs into the metal bar. Attach spark plug wires. Mount the rig someplace convenient with the wood gluing clamp. I use a remote starter switch on the starter solenoid ( connect to battery cable and yellow wire on solenoid). Turn ignition key to the "ON" position and press the button on the remote starter switch. Also works great to set timing.
