Ok I have fixed my spark problem; it was the wiring in the control box. But now it still will not start, I have taken out the fuel filter and made sure that it was clean, but I'm not sure where to look now, any suggestions? Oh and it is model number 00003035.

Thanks in advance,
Wolf

Try the ole "squirt bottle of premix" trick. Squirt the premix in the carbs while trying to start. That way you'll know you've got spark and fuel. Remember, it must have fuel, air, spark and timing to run.

c/6

Hooty

Thanks for quick reply Hooty, I'm prety sure I'm getting fuel with no problem, air is a given, so how do I check the timing on it? I know the sticker at the fromt of the motor says 28 degrees, but I have no idea how to check it. Sory this is my first boat, it ran when I bought it, but I haven't been able to start it since a couple of days after I brought it home. It hasn't even seen the lake yet :(

"I'm prety sure I'm getting fuel with no problem." How did you check? Results?

How do you know that you have spark?

I would follow Hooty's suggestion before I went further. If you had it running most likely the timing is not that far off.

I wouldn't tinker with it blindly. Get the OMC manual for your motor.

There is a relatively easy way to check the timing - will try to find it & get back to this later.

have you had the fly wheel off? check the keyway, if it sheared, you wouldnt know. again start it by jump after you prime it.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I'm not postive about the fuel, I am just guessing being that the filter wasn't really dirty or gummy or anything, it looked clean.

I have a manual on order, should get here sometime soon. I'm just looking for some of the easier stuff to try.

I'll try the squirt trick and see what happens, if that doesn't do anything, I'll check on the keyway. Q: If the keyway is sheared, would the prop still turn while cranking? I'll go try theses now and get back with you all in a little while. Again thanks for the help :D

wetwolf,

The prop shouldn't spin while you are cranking it.

Something else is going on here. If it's in gear, that will kill the ignition-while cranking.

djohns19 iz right, the prop shouldn't turn when starting, unless it's really in neutral and the l/u lube is turning it. With the switch off and in neutral, see if the prop turns by hand. If it does, it's in neutral and you're o-k. If not, stop and get my to us.

c/6

Hooty

The prop turns but not as if it was in gear. Yes, I can turn it by hand when it is in netural. I think the prop seal is bad as well because some of the oil leaks out when I'm cranking it and then it drips slowly for a couple hours afterwards. What does all this mean? Again sorry I'm new to the boating world.

Hey Hooty,
I just realized that your only an hour and a half away from me, cool. Burkburnett is just north of Wichita Falls. I'll try the test tonight on the boat and get back with you guys tomorrow.

Thanks again everyone,
Wolf

Yeah, I know where Burkburnett is. My youngest son went to school at MSU. That stuff leaking might be unburned fuel. Keep an eye on the level of the l/u lube and see if it's loosing any or not.

c/6

Hooty
