On the winch post - where it makes a convenient step into the boat for launching.

Re: Spare Tire

I have spares on both my tandem axle trailers mounted on a Fulton spare carrier and a floor jack in the truck for the trailer if needed. I also carry a spare hub with bearings and seal pre-installed.

On the tongue. Also makes a nice step from my truck to get stuff (and me) in thru the bow.

How many of us actually have the tools to take a lugnut off if needed? I do.

I carry a 4 way, an emergency took kit and wheel chocks in the truck box. The truck jack works fine on the trailer.

Edit - I like the spare mounted this way because if for some reason you lose the trailer off the hitch you'll come down on the spare and the rig won't slide up under you when you stop. It also keeps the hitch from being ground down to where you can't hook it back up again. I've yet to have it happen but you just never know.

Re: Spare Tire

Mine is on a frame rail mount in front of the left rear fender. $20 tire carrier from Northern Tool that secures with U-bolts. They make a nicer model that carries a spare hub which is worth the extra bucks. Foldable 4 way is under the truck seat with the truck jack that also works on the boat trailer.

Re: Spare Tire

All my trailers carry spares.....even the three with the same size have one of their own.

The small trailers with 12" rims are mounted vertically on the winch stand. The big tandem has it mounted flat on the tongue.

My son never believed in one.....until this summer when he had a flat on the way to vacation on the interstate. For what he had to pay the wrecker to put on an old junk tire so he could get off the highway he could have bought 2 spares!

I have the same one and am happy with it. I used to throw the spare in the truck bed like muskiemike12. I got tired of lugging it around plus I forgot it a few times.

Re: Spare Tire

Just picked up a spare, keep it in truck for now. Need to get a mount next. Bottle jack, four way, and couple of blocks to drive the rim onto to raise the axle up nough to get jack under in back of cab. Didn't have anything till now, a flat sure would fhave turned into a large pain without a spare, never know, see the trailer flat folks all the time on the road.

Howdy JEBar : I always carry a spare. Have mine located on starboard side at transom. Thinking on moving to bow area. Purchased my carrier from harbor freight for $15.00.

Wherever it will fit and the most convenient place for yourself. But you do need a spare no question. Going local I carry one and going distance I carry 2 spare wheels and a spare tire as well.

Re: Spare Tire

I'll jump out and say nope, I don't carry a spare.

I did, however, just put 4 brand new tires and wheels on my tandem trailer.

Next year before my 5-hour drive for family vacation, I'll probably get one and mount it on a carrier on the trailer.

Spare tire mounted on the frame and I have a spare hub and bearings stored in the boat along with a 50 Cal ammo can that I use as a toolbox. It is compact and water tight which makes it a perfect for storing tools.

I've never considered having two spares but, after thinking about it, doing so makes sense to me

Re: Spare Tire

One on the port side, one on the starboard side, and on the wilderness trips, one more in the truck.
And a floor jack and tool box for sure.
