Spare prop, anyone carry one?

I have never carried a spare prop, but I have been advised more than once that it's a good idea to carry a prop and the tools to swap it out.
For my old Johnson 90, it's not a big expense and I use aluminum props.
If I smashed into the rocks like my buddy did last week, I don't know if I could have changed it. He got the boat to a cottage dock but the waves were 3 feet high as it was windy. Turns out his lower end is damaged anyway.
I guess if I was going up north it would be a good idea as we could change it in the camp and keep on fishing.

I have one, but don't carry it. My boat still has the same prop that came on it when I bought it new. I think the spare is a different pitch, but it's been so many years since I looked at it (in 2002) that I don't remember.

On my Baja I had the original Blackmax aluminum prop as a back-up...luckily, never needed it. I don't carry them in my cobalt as they would equate to carrying 2 extra props, but I will throw the F6's in the Yukon if I'm gone for any period of time camping...just in case?

Yup. Prop, puller, wrench and a spare nut and cotter key in an acme bag under one of the seats Not easy finding a spare prop quickly, and even a small dent in a nibral prop makes it vibrate lke crazy. I'd ha e to pull it up on the trailer to change it.

I always carry a spare prop as well as a few other bits.
You can usually find a used one online for $40 or so for that kind of motor..

i carry one on board. i've got the space for it. so far i've not needed it. but i like the feeling of having it on board anyways. i did try to change mine on just some beach one day. it's not as easy as ya'd think in the water. i use a punch to lock my prop nut on. i dropped it and it's gone. just that fast. and i could feel the bottom. it just vanished in the sand.

props can be lost. my dear 'ol Dad lost his up at his cabin in MN. just going along and all of a sudden. no propulsion. dead in the water. figured out he'd lost his prop. good thing the waters are so clear up at his cabin. he took some brgs and decided where to come back to. he swam his boat home as he was pretty close. went back the next day and skin dived for it and found it. guess the prop nut had just fell off. so he got lucky and was close to home in clear water so he could find his prop. i boat in filthy dirty water. ya can't see 12'' in ft of ya, likely less. loose yer prop for whatever reason and it's gone..... i also run the missouri river. ya better have yer ducks in a row while on that. there's no where to get anything to fix yer boat.... props included.

I carry a complete set of props(F5 for mine) for my Volvo Duo-prop. Expensive but I wouldn't want to be on Lake Powell without a compete set including the special tool to replace the forward prop.

With my parents years ago up near the north end of Vancouver island, we lost a whole blade off a prop. We actually carried 3 extra props. We had one spare for the one on the drive and 2 of a lower pitch. There is so much wood floating around in the Straits up there that hitting floating wood was common.

I carry a spare set on the Rogue. Kept a spare prop on the searay, and two different props on the avanti. The bass tracker has a spare prop, same as the mirro craft, crestliner, lund, and dunphy before that.

Wrecking a prop can be an inconvenience or it can be the end of a vacation....your choice

I have one and all the tools to go with it,,, and then some, lol. I have swapped out the prop just to see what is involved and to check out my spare, all was good. we are not on a huge lake, 15 miles long, but its a long way home paddling a 20 foot boat.

I carry a spare. I boat with an aluminum but carry a SS as spare. It also helps to offset the weight of the 2nd battery I added so there's that..

I always carry a spare prop and hardware. It's not exactly my desired pitch or blade count but it'll work to get me to safety if I need it. I found this nifty little mount that holds everything in place in my engine compartment.

Well, I'm going to get my self a 13 1/4 x 17 spare prop and keep it on the boat or in the back of the truck.
I'd sure hate to cut a trip short because of something I could have had along.

I did for my years with my previous boat but now that we have our lake house and that my current boat doesn't have a nice compartment to store it like the previous, i don't....I should but I don't. Half a dozen props in my garage 30 feet from my dock but that won't help if I hit a rock 5 miles out on the lake.

Do they make kits/bags like this for I/O props? When we had an I/O the extra prop was just stored in a seat base.
