My 1968 9.5 Evnrude started on the 3rd pull after buying it untested, and doing the things you guys told me to do before start-up. Thanks.

Now, wondering what spare parts are good to have along that might save a weekend trip. What would make up a good kit to have aboard?

Emergency starting rope, spare spark plugs, propeller drive pin and cotter pin. Plug wrench and pliers to change prop pins. Anything more serious and you would have to take your whole toolbox to fix it anyway. Well, maybe add a spare propeller. Mine gave out on me last weekend, about ten miles downstream.

Don't forget a hammer, WD-40, and duck tape. Seriously:)

Re: Spare parts to carry

As FR said anything more serious than prop pin or fouled plugs can't really be fixxed on the water so just basic tools, screw drivers, pliers, vise grips, tape(Duck and black) and some small zip ties, maybe something to splice a wire.
