The iboats forum moderators are excited to announce that at this time it appears the iboats forums posting pictures function is working once again. Though we cannot promise for how long, we're hoping for indefinitely.
i live in between west palm beach inlet and Jupiter inlet in south florida and im wondering which is better to go out of and which i could catch more dolphin or snapper out of?
Palm Beach is definately the better inlet. Jupiter is fine with a slack tide and if you are aware of the shifting sandbars. As far as catching fish, it doesn't really matter. They're all out there - somewhere.
Jupiter inlet can be real nasty at times. I fish out of the palm beach inlet and seem to have the best luck going to the north towards jupiter when i troll for dolphin or sails. i dont really bottom fish out there so im not sure about the snapper and grouper fishing offshore.
i mostly fish inshore and there is some excellent snapper fishing in the inshore waters if you know where to go and have live bait. limits of nice size mangroves make a tasty meal.
thank you for the input, anyone know where i can buy live bait at in the area besides just live shrimp?
and mpsyamaha, i understand good fisherman dont give away their secrets, but is there any thing you can let me know to guide me in the right direction for catching dolphin about where to fish? I have bought "dolphin lures" and have tried trolling for hours and have not caught any dolphin maybe they just werent biting that day but maybe it was just me....there were a few others out there trolling? any tips would be great only dolphin i have caught were fishing off the blue heron.
if you want to troll, try some rigged ballyhoo just fast enough to skip. also try adding a skirt to a ballyhoo. dolphin are usually in at least 150ft of water and can often be found around weeds, color changes, debris. freeline some livebait out around a weedline and if they are there you will get em. the bigger dolphin have tapered off over the last few weeks, still some schoolies out there. I work at a local marina and i always watch what the guides bring back. Kingfish are doing good right now and they are often in pretty close. I dont know where they are getting them but a lot of big amberjacks and cobia are coming in over the last 2 weeks. im thinking of doing a little wreck fishing tomorrow hehe
thanks for all the info....im going out monday (memorial day) with a couple friends and a couple different boats and were doing a little contest 1st keeper biggest keeper and most keepers for just about anything we catch....hopefully we catch some dolphin though.
also do you know where i might be able to buy live bait (besides shrimp) cant find live bait any of the bait and tackle shops...and the cast net hasnt been bringing in too many big enough live bait.
sometimes you can find a bait boat on the water around the inlet... in the morning. if you want big baits you can always fish for them, some nearly hand-size pinfish and grunts will work good on the wrecks.
or you can look in and around the inlet, often just outside. use your depthfinder, in addition to your eyesk, and use sabiki rigs. ran across a school of blue runners last time i was out that way.
all that being said, catching bait is a ***** sometimes
you can say that again...me and my cousing have been going out with a cast net the past few nights and have been catching a bunch of small bait about 3 to 4 inches long...too small but hopefully we can find some bigger before monday. were going on an all day trip leaving out of palm beach inlet...launching at blue heron.
i got some info today at work... a live bait boat "Yankee" that stays were i work monitors channel 68, so you can give him a holler. also has cell phone 561 313 6545 or 561 744 4675
