There are so many people fishing the fore mentioned waters and there is never anything written regarding them! I am sure there are private clubs who communicate over the internet but I have seen none done on a national level!

Depending who you talk to Monroe is either a good largemouth, crappie, or striper/white bass lake. If I am white bass fishing I like going a little farther north to Cecil B Harden lake at Racoon park. Largemouths and especially bluegill/redear are coming back strong at Patoka Lake. The stripers and white bass that were stocked in Patoka years ago have not performed like they expected. Would have really helped this fishery if they would have. Haven't worked Lake Lemon but have been reading on it.

I have not fished Patoka since it went south but I sure enjoyed it when I was fishing there! I normally fish Monroe and Lemon on account of them being close to home! I live three (3) miles from Lemon and am on it five out of seven days a week. Lemon is not as good as it once was but none of them are. My wife and I spent a week end on Brookville this past season and to us thats a hard lake to fish. It runs north and south and the wind blows ether straight up the lake or straight down the lake. We have a friend who fishes Brookville everyweek and thinks it's great. I suppose if I lived near Brookville I too would be spending the time on the lake. I don't normally chase any particular specis of fish but more or less bass fish for pleasure and if an opportnity for other things comes up I'll jump on it! The best White Bass fishing we ever had was up on the "Wolf River" in Wisconsin.

My buddies and I used to call Monroe "Mon Nothing Roe" since it pretty tough the last few years. Patoka was the hottest lake last year, lots of quality bass caught there. The first stop of the federation tournament is at Patoka this year. I can't wait! pre-spawn and even spawner gonna be all around.

I guess the reason I have a soft spot for Racoon is my buddy up there (I'm three hours away) has a cabin that we stay on. Usually go up on Wed and leave noon Sat. to escape the Indy (one hour east) boat traffic. Beautiful clear lake. Striper there are running between 15 and 20 pounds if you are patient and know what you are doing. We put all the stripes back but keep the whites (usually between 3/4 and one pound) for eating. I love crappie but will put these fillets up against any.

Re: South Central Indiana

There are are few guys from another web link I and my wife have fished with this past season and we almost spent a week end on "Racoon"! The day we went up there the wind was blowing so bad the water was a dark milky brown and the waves were rough! Had I been by myself it wouldn't of mattered but the misses has this thing about drowning that scares the hell out of her. I have to agree with you about eating the ol'e white bass! great table fare and fun to catch. I would say my all time favorite eating fish however will remain the "Catfish"! Crappie is good, walleye is good but to me, Mr. wiskers takes the cake. My wife and I have fished all of Arkansas and Missouri but truely appreciate our Indiana waters! In fact, we will be on Tablerock this late summer or early fall and that is one of the lakes I enjoy spending time on! The problems I find with the more southern lakes is the water level is too eratic and unstable. One day it's high and the next their letting water out! Guess it's on account of the generating that needs to be done down there!

Monroe is a good lake and a bad one all wrapped up in one! Early season is good to me, mid season and late fall approach that level also. The rest of the time ya got to carry a slug gun to keep the week enders out of your area. This lake has the most ignorant people on I have ever seen!!!! It starts at the ramps and goes that way clear down to the "No Wake" zones! I had one person at the "Saulte Creeek" ramp one year let the air out of one of the tires on my pickup because he felt I needed a lesson in getting my trailer between the lines and in line with his, which ever one was his, he was gone when I got back to the ramp and could only read his note!

Racoon is up and down like the southern lakes too. I check the website on the lake levels first. When it is at summer pool it's gorgeous. If it is up then it is stained pretty bad. The white bass spawn up there is awesome. I fish the Ohio for cats and they are not my favorite fare but are a blast to catch. If you get down evansville way sometime look me up and we'll go to the grain terminals and catch all you want. anywhere from 5 inches to 35 pounds. I filet all mine right there and put them on ice. Don't want to clean fish when I get home. Too many cold tastys make me lazy. If you can make a racoon trip with us this summer give me a call. 800-986-3637. Ask for Scott or leave me a message. Would be glad to talk to you.

Re: South Central Indiana

Do you have an e-mail address? Mine is, jmach15382@aol.com! When I was a working person I was down in southern Indiana and Illinois a great deal! I used to take care of an area runing from I65 on the east to Robinson Illinois on the west and from Peru Indiana north to Mt Carmel Illinois south! Now that I'm retired I more or less spend my time in the mid southern Indiana region. The only exception is when the wife and I take trips of about an eight hour drive or so and spend a long week end or even a week away from home. Living in the same town as the university I don't find it hard getting out of town. Should you ever want to try Lake Lemon or any other lake in this area drop me a message and we'll put something together!
