I have a 1912 Fay & Bowen with the original gas tank under the forward deck. The tank is rusting on the inside and either needs to be coated to prevent further rusting or replaced. Has anyone had experience with coating the insides of gas tanks? How well did it work? How long did it hold up? Alternatively, I could replace the tank (a leaky tank is a safety issue, after all). If I go this route, I think I'd prefer plastic rather than aluminum. If you have experience with either material, what has been your experience? Who made the tank for you? Thanks.

Most newer boats (1995+) come with plastic tanks. I would go that way. Moeller is one brand with a large selection of tanks. Simply find one that fits the existing space.

The internet will give a competitive price.

welcome aboard

I have coated my own tanks and had them professionally coated for antique cars and bikes, and the coating will come loose after a period of time if you dont chemically remove the rust prior to coating. best I found is fill the tank with 20:1 ratio of water to muratic acid, and use a pressure washer to blast the rust out. Then neutralize.

I would get a new one made unless you need the original tank for restoration reasons.
