Hey Pony,

When I was in High School, I joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Not sure if you know what they are but basically they are a group of vounteers that help out the Coast Guard by doing some of the remedial duties. In Green Bay, the Auxiliary patrols the lower half of the bay of Green Bay and the northern part of the Fox River. We got to use all CG equipment. Basically, the only thing we couldn't do was carry a sidearm and issue tickets. But we did do a lot of Search-and-rescue.

The thing about the GB Auxiliary station when I was there was that it was full of a bunch of old guys. I signed on when I was 16. The next youngest Active member was 34. My stepdad ended up spending a LOT of time down there. He ended up winning district awards for the number of hours. As a result he ended up becoming flotilla commander even held high-ranking positions within the district.

He ended up putting in a good word for me and found out I could get a letter of recommendation from high-ranking person at Group that would recommend me to the academy.

Sean
