First of all in 2002 I had a skeeter bass boat with a 115hp Johnson on it and rebuilt it. This was the first time I ever worked on an outboard and with the help of this forum I got it done =). I now have a different boat, upgraded =) . I have learned a ton of things and would like to give a Salute to Joe Reeves!!!. This guy is still around helping people out WOW! Your such a super guy, and I havnt forgot you man, even after almost 7 yrs ago you helped me alot and I want you to know I apprecate it.
Now the problem im having now is with my tachometer working only until i hit 1500 rpm. When it reaches 1500 it drops to 0 and wont work until i let off the throttle again.
I have read the how to checks from Joe Reeves both of them for the small and water cooled rectifiers mine is the water cooled one with more wires.
I have done these tests.
1) checked voltage at battery 12v, then starting motor and checking again, still got 12v. link ->>> http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=189843
2) checked voltage at back of tach, and was getting 12v from ign to ground and 8v from send to ground. link ->>> http://www.downloadingfiles.co.uk/teleflexfiles/gauges/page342.pdf
3) tried the small rectifier test from Joe, even though mines not that and got the same resistance both ways.
4) tried the water cooled rectifier test which Joe also has posted here and I couldnt find the terminal block where the yellow/gray wire hooks to so I punctured a tiny hole with my multimeter wire and connected that to the gray wire and into the yellow/gray while the motor was running and had the same results where tach goes to 1500 then drops to Zero again when giving it throttle.
here is a pic.

I dont have a different tach to use and im kind of on a budget but dont want this to catch fire and be even worse. The motor Runs great! I love the boat however Im kind of stuck here.
Anyone have any idea what I should do next to figure this out.
So my problem is my tach doesnt work right im not sure if its the tach or the Regulator/Rectifier. The boat is a 1992 hyrda sports with a 175hp Evinrude model VE175GLENC and the Regulator Rectifier is part number 584093.
thanks
