seen something amazing today while I was out snowmobiling.came up to a small valley close to our city dump on the outskirts of town and seen at least a dozen juvenile and adult bald eagles lounging in the trees.dead of winter and that many eagles!must be the easy pickings at the dump and surrounding area that draws them I quess.will try to see if I can get a picture or two on my next trip if they are still around.the juveys seem a little skittish but the adults don't seem to mind the noise of the sleds.also several ravens mixed in with the eagles ,must be the happy hunting ground.

Must be some meat in there somewhere. Eagles have no objection to an easy meal.

I have a small river a few miles away and a fair number of bald eagles hang out there during the winter downstream of the reservoir. One morning a few years ago I was on my way to work and there was a road kill deer carcass in a bean field about a 100 ft off the road with 2 bald eagles on it chowing down. From the look on their faces I'm guessing it was pretty tender.

Eagles are scavengers for sure. I have seen them dining on skunk.

This time of year, they will flock to open water, usually below dams on larger rivers.

Several Eagle festivals coming up in the next 6 weeks, in Cassville, Prairie du Chien, Sauk City, Alma , all in the SW Wisconsin on the Mississippi and Wisconsin rivers..

Often a hundred or more eagles to be seen.

Road kill is there favorite meal here in Michigan, that and dead fish that wash up on the great lakes. We have several that dine, perch, and roam my folks place on Lake Huron, they patrol the road and beach every day. They perch in an old growth pine that is down close to the beach, they are like clockwork. I'll bet someone dumped a deer or other road kill in the dump.

Sitting here reading this I'm watching 2 juvs and 1 adult hunt the cuyahoga river. Yes the cuyahoga, the one that's famous for catching on fire, multiple times. Is been cleaned up nicely, i see more wildlife here next to the steel mill than I do in the country where I live.

The Eagles are thicker than a flock of pigeons in a city park here. They love hanging out where the Mississippi meets the Illinois meets the Misouri River in winter.
