I find it annoying that people tend to skip over new postings, I do this, but I myself am not a seasoned boater which makes me relatively unqualified for a response because Im not educated on the subject, but even more annoying is that some of these same people would rather argue pointless things like wether quoting people or not is offensive & redundant(seems to me its a good idea considering some of these topics and questions have sub-topics and questions and giving a response to a ? usually would require some sort of pre-quote to let them know what question their talking about) or maybe some of the site members like to pretend its high school and only respond to the people they know and not offer their much needed feedback to those of us that are new and really need it. the reason were all here is to share idea's and info but i guess it's only to those that are in your "cliq" sorry if this is venting but i offer replies on anything I feel i can help with. hope I don't alienate myself on this site but it's frustrating seeing people spend so much energy on stupid pointless things

Danimal....I don't really think people intentionally diregard some people's questions, in fact I think that the people with the most knowledge on this site are the ones who help the most and actually enjoy helping people who are new to boating and don't understand things. If a person's question goes unanswered it is most likely due to people not seeing it, which happens from time to time, it has happenend to me. If a person does not get a response all they need to do is keep bumping it up and eventually someone will see it and answer or help out as much as they can. People do argue about useless things sometimes here, but that is all part of this site, people can discuss whatever they want and sometimes you actually learn from the arguments. If you ever really need help, you will get it on this site, people here have helped me out on alot of things and always answered my technical questions as well as my stupid ones. Enjoy the site.

Re: some ? not welcome

Hi, Danimal.<br /><br />I don't think anyone here skips over new posts if they have something to offer.<br /><br />Actually there are some questions that are not as welcome as others.<br /><br />Questions that duplicate questions already posted on one or more other forums, like your Hydrofoil question, for example.<br /><br />Questions that require ESP to know what engine, etc the poster is asking about, what his problem is, what he has done, what he learned from it.<br /><br />Questions that have nothing to do with the topic of the forum they are in. Like this one, for example. This is a chat thread on an outboard discussion forum.<br /><br />I bypass questions if I have nothing to offer.<br /><br />I haven't noticed any posts of yours that have been ignored or bypassed, but if you will bump them to the top you will eventiually get replies, even if it just to reassure you that someone will come along who has an answer.<br /><br />Moving this to Dockside Chat.<br /><br />Good luck. :)

i think it helps to also keep in mind that many of these topics and discussions have come up, before, in some form or another. you can't really expect the die-hard regulars to carry on the same conversations over and over again. hmm, they carry on with the same arguments over and over again, so i guess maybe i don't really know what i'm talking about.<br /><br />never mind.<br /><br />what's the question?

Ditto to what everyone has said.<br /><br />I don't think you are over reacting at all Danimal1706, it's just that you have to be patient, as it could sometimes take a day or two to get the answer you are looking for, although it rarely takes more than a couple of hours before real help comes along.<br /><br />Just be patient, there is lots of good help here.<br /><br />Oh, by the way, welcome to iboats!

I Totally Agree with the above.............<br /><br />I hangout in the I/O, Boat, Trailer,+ Project Boat forums for the most part.......<br />The only posts I Skip over are related to things I Don't Mess With........<br />OMCs<br />470s<br />Volvos<br />Etcs<br />Even the Redundent Posts, Asking the Same Question as 1 that's Still on Page 1, I'll Suggest a Search of the Topic......<br />Some of them do get Old, But atleast they change with the Time of the Year......... :D

Hey Danimal,<br />I read your post on hydrofoils. It seems you got plenty of replies. What were you complaining about?

Danimal, welcome to iboats!<br /><br />I too skip threads that I have nothing to add to.<br /><br />I would rather give no advice than bad advice.<br /><br />Hang out in the Dockside Chat area, and you'll get plenty of replies to your threads. :D

Re: some ? not welcome

This is the way I look at it. This si a great place to hang out and read the various posts and to ask questions. I do not have any expectations out of what I get, thus there is no 'service level' that I expect. Frankly if I ask a question and no one responds, I assume nobody could answer the question. Intent not to never enters my mind.<br /><br />I have often thought of myself as a thread killer as I have often been the last to post. I just find that more interesting than trying to read something into it.<br /><br />Just hang out, be cool, and bump your posts..

Use the search function.<br />It will give you plenty of reading while waiting on replies to your posts.

Re: some ? not welcome

I'm a newcomer to this forum, but I've been around other forums for quite some time.<br /><br />In my experience, redundant questions that are answered in other threads are often overlooked. If someone isn't willing to take the time to look through the forum rules or use the search button, why should others be willing to take the time to write a response?<br /><br />For example, if you post "My tilt doesn't work on my Force, what should I do?" First, you should read the forum rules. Second, you should try the search. Third, give the year, make, and model of your outboard as well as any other symptoms or remidies that you have already tried. THEN people may bother to answer your question, but don't expect an answer if you aren't willing to do your share of the legwork first.<br /><br />How's that for a rant? :D

Re: some ? not welcome

I tend to only answer questions I may know the answer to. I'll also answer questions that have been asked a millions times. I really want to stay out of opinion posts, but sometimes I just can't help myself :D ... The search function is a handy tool, but sometimes new ways to do things develop, and are not in the archived posts. New products and techniques show up every day, so I don't think it is a bad idea to post a redundant question. Its the only way to get the most current up-to-date info. Good luck....<br /><br />BTW, as soon as this place starts to be like high school, I am outahere. Didn't tolerate it then, won't tolerate it now....

Re: some ? not welcome

danimal- i agree with your observations and voiced it back when i started here. there are some great people around here that can offer good advice and experience. there are others that rather ignore you and your simple questions, or just say "use the search function, stupid." the place should really shut down if we followed that advice, since i'm sure 99% of the questions out there have been asked. i just think these people were treated the same when they showed up and think it's alright to do the same. stick around and ask your questions. bump them if necessary. you'll eventually find those good people. enjoy-

Re: some ? not welcome

I completely disagree w/ Mattt, If you have a technical question, and all you want is the answer, than with a "Search" you might find the answers you're looking for. If your question needs some personal attention than by all means post it. If you just want to Chit-Chat, than you're in the right place. I believe that the majority of people here are good and if they have the answer, they'll answer it. I've seen alot of helpful info given to a person's first post. Some days are just slow here, give it a chance

Re: some ? not welcome

Danimal, When I first started posting here I felt almost guilty--knowing I'm getting this info. for free--in the convienience of my own home. Sure it may take awhile to get a response, but thanks to these guys, I now have a running motor which I initially knew nothing about. There are 3 things I've learned since I've been here:<br /><br />1.Keep bumpin em.<br />2.Abuse the search function.<br />3.Buy a manual. <br /><br /> I don't post much because the expert answers I received and the searching of other posts has brought my engine back from the dead. Now I just enjoy reading all the "I can't believe I did this" threads and I also enjoy the political and joke threads. Be patient and good luck.<br /><br />Thanks again iboats! ;)

Re: some ? not welcome

after reading your origional post here, I get the<br />feeling this is not a question but a statement.<br />sometimes the way you post a question and then<br />re-post it turns people off from answering perhaps?
