They have immigrant citizens too . . . Are you suggesting that there are levels of valid citizenship? Pretty tough discussion here in the US too ;) Not sure where that ends up except that American Indians (yes, I know that label is not PC) are the only true US citizens and the Aborigines are the only true Aussie citizens.
It may not be "PC", but no truer words have been spoken :)

I can go with that.
But what if it was one of your kids? Does it still seem fair?

I agree that it was their law and he broke it. For that, he should pay their price. Their court, their rules. But I still think it's wrong. Life in prison would be a more acceptable sentence to me. Even that is too harsh I think. But it would have been better than death.

With that said there is also a part of me that wants to shoot anyone affiliated with Meth, crack, or heroin. Cocaine could be considered a distant 4th. Most drugs are a "monkey on your back" type problem, but being addicted to any of the three I listed is like having a 2000 lb gorilla on your back, pounding on you as hard as he can. You WILL go down. it's not a matter of if, but a matter of when.

I do not necessarily agree with deat penalty either. However who are we(America & Australia) to presume that we are right and just and that Singapore or Bali or any other country with differing justice systems are wrong.

I've always been of the opinion that anyone arrested for drugs be given a spoon, their drugs, and told "START EATING".

Oh well - one can dream, I guess. . .

Yes, still sounds fair. How many criminals do we have to rehabilitate, all the while watching sky rocketing recidivism? How many kids would have gotten hurt from the dope he was selling? How many might have OD'd on it?

Oh, but this is where we differ. I'm not going to make a stand on this one guy, with this law, but it is absolutely required of us to speak up for what is right and what is wrong. I am very against the "who am I to say" stuff. I will say a few right now:

I am 100% positive it is wrong to strap bombs to yourself and blow up innocents. Some "societies" call that just.

I am 100% positive that refusing to condemn these types of acts is almost as, if not more, evil than the act itself. Which is exactly what we get from the majority of the Islamic faithful. Nothing.

I am 100% positive that it is wrong to turn a blind eye to a child beater, but, hey "who are we to say?".

Not picking on you Johnson, but it is something I have come to feel strongly about. There are things that are wrong and things that are right. I am not prepared to accept somethings just because we shouldn't judge others. We should absolutely judge others. That is what justice is.

I'll tell you what is OK for some to condemn others for though, something particularly vile and repulsive - smoking. That is where the priorities lie with many . . . "we shouldn't condemn others for rioting in France, but I tell you, we should make sure that there is no second hand smoke anywhere. Now that there is for the betterment of mankind."

BTW, I don't smoke and hate the smell . . .

Peace brother, referring to your poem, which I enjoyed etc. I come here for good, intelligent debate. I hope that is what you feel I have entered into here. ;)

quietcatt22, I agree with what you are saying and feel very much the same as you. The point that I was attempting to make was that the bleeding hearts in our society believe that our laws are correct and that the law of Singapore (hanging for drug smugglers) is incorrect.

I too love good healthy debate, and take no offence at all, this type of discussion is healthy and fun. :D ;)

alden, Singapore is a sovereign nation, they are not in alliance nor are they a part of China.
Crap for some reason I was thinking Hong Kong.
A perfectly natural mistake, they are both somewhere near China. ;) not :)

johnson,

Cool. It is those same bleeding hearts that mean so very well, but are an honest threat to standards of behavior . . .

Re: Some harsh words, what are the merits?

The greatest thing that our countries offer is the freedom to express our opinions, unfortunately some people think that automatically makes their opinions and beliefs right all the time, (bit like on this site) ;) , and lack the grey matter required to understand other peoples side of the argument.
I personaaly believe in the death penalty for certain crimes and will express that opinion openly, but still respect the rights and feelings of people who disagree.
