OK.Trim would not work this spring so I had the trim motor rebuilt. Put the motor in and the same thing happens......Nothing! I understand that if I hear a click then it is the solenoid. I don't hear a thing. I checked current while my boy pushed the buttons for up,down. I get power to the solenoid. Could this still be a bad solenoid. If so, should I replace both? This is on a 1985 3.0 merc with a Alpha 1 gen 1 out drive.
Thanks so much for the help

The solenoid is basically an electromagnet, try tapping it firmly on the bottom, with a light plastic mallet (or the like) while working the buttons. It just might need a bit of persuasion. If it works, you know that it was just stuck, but maybe ready for replacement.

if you hear clicking, that's usually a motor issue, tapping the motor will at times get it going again. if you have power and still click after a motor re-build, question your motor rebuild
