Im working on a '57 9hp rude and was wondering if it would be ok to mount the solenoid beneath the top or do I need to mount it on the boat. The boat is a 15' aluminum jon.

Re: solenoid

If you are talking about the starter solenoid, it is usually mounted on the engine.
I didn't know that they had an electric starter in 57 for a 9 hp, in fact I can't find a 9 hp in 1957.

Re: solenoid

What's your model number, I didn't think they put electric start on them back then.

Re: solenoid

They certainly did in '58. Was my first powerhead rebuild.

Re: solenoid

I looked at a couple of 57 engines and did not see the electric starter, that's why I wanted the model number.

Re: solenoid

From the factory, solenoid would have been mounted in a separate box, which in turn was mounted on the transom of the boat. There would have been a wiring harness which plugged into the front of the motor. You could mount the solenoid on the motor with a push button to start it. That is how my 1972 18hp is set up.
