That would be helpful if you posted pictures.

The basic operation of a solenoid is to act as a switch, that can handle larger current. Your switch or key you activate, triggers a mechanism in the solenoid, and then the current passes from the battery, to the solenoid, through the inside of it, and then up to the starter.

Have you tryed jumping it across the big studs on the solenoid, that by passes the control circuit. In your case the main power wire should be on the positive battery terminal directly to the solenoid. The negative battery wire goes to the motor block. And while not likely it may be reversed inside of the starter, thats why the jumper test. The jumper a way to see where the problem is to see if its a power or a control wiring issue or the starter its self. It should intensely spin the motor.

here is a simple wiring print on a basic started circuit just to give you a idea.

It didn't do anything - just a spark and a smell from the battery. That is of course if I did it right; had the positive from the battery on solenoid and negative on ground motor.
Am going to start a new thread with some pics. So lost...so annoying....
