hi guys i got a suzuki dt30h 2 cyl problem is that the engine idles fine but when i open the throttle it accelerates for 3 seconds then dies. but if i pull choke out fully it revs all the way up just like it should do. the primer bulb goes very soft and squeezing it dont do the trick. when i first prime it it goes hard but after very short while goes soft.what could cause this and with a hard primer bulb would it still need the choke or would this possibly solve my problem. apart from this the engine is a very good smoothe unit that idles real nice, pleaes help asap ineed to get back on the river this weekend if possible thanks in advance phill

What is the condition of your fuel connectors at the tank and at the engine? If these leak air, then you would run lean and could explain your problem.

Like ALM I think you have a fuel problem.Do as he says and then if the problem persists you may have a fuel pump or carby problem. Since it will run on choke the fuel pump is probably OK but it is easy to inspect the diaphragm. That being intact will mean that the carbies need stripping and cleaning to ensure that all jets and passages are clean. Plenty of info on this site to tell you how to go about it.

Re: soft primer bulb on suzi 30hp

cheers for advice. ive cleaned the carb and it is very clean.the primer bulb goes hard but then soft even before i start the engine. when first starting it runs great just gets full throttle then slows right down, give it full choke and away she goes. believe it or not when on full choke this little engine is pushing a 17ft picton gts at 22mph. it gets on plane very quick just a case of haveing to keep the choke on. without touching the choke it will idle good and run at about 7-8mph fine as soon as you give it more throttle you need to give full choke, i will check the tank fitting and primer bulb connections as after reading replys i remember these were a bit suspect the last time i used this engine (about 3 years ago ) once again thanks everyone for the advice and ill let you know the outcome. phill
