Last year the ice on Eagle Lake in Canada by Dryden finally came off the lake the last week of May. This year I understand the Ice is thicker. We will be going up the 1st week in June. Should we start a pool on when the ice will be out? If so what would the winner get? My guess is May 29th, just before we get there!!! Hope the walleye are biting then! I miss fishing, can't wait for spring. Today got up it was -2. Getting up to 28 today, tomorrow up to 40. Saturday up to 50.00 Hey Hey we are getting close. But... next week back down to the 20's.

......Should we start a pool....

OK- I don't know anything about Eagle Lake, but to start a pool you first have to find the choke... Is this an electric start pool or a pull start? :)

Sorry- a little cabin fever here in Vermont too.

I don't know how you guys do it up there. Waiting to fish until ice out in May?

I'm half fish crazy by now and I fished up until New Years day. Could fish year round if I didn't promise the Mrs. a winter break. It's been in the 60s and 70's the last week and the big girls are starting to appear at their usual haunts. Fishing for these gals will be wide open in 3-4 weeks.

Here is one they caught Sunday at a local winter hot spot.

Well, we start shoveling the snow out of the ramps in May.....sometimes ice is out by July 1st :p (Just kidding)

I once actually have shoveled piles of snow at a client's home in Stowe in June after I mowed the rest of the lawn which was already thawed out. There was one big pile of snow that we had shoveled off the roof in February and March, and it hadn't melted out yet.

Didn't sign up the site for the link you posted, but I assume it is a good one :)

That's a big chunk o' bait- what do you catch on it? ;)

Pictures like that make me want to try ocean fishing, but that is a long drive for me.

Trouble is when you catch a huge fish, will it diminish the "regular" fish I usually catch?! If I get bored with local fishing, THEN what am I going to do to remain (or at least look) sane...

Its very poplar down here to target them using LTJ (light tackle jigging). To LTJ you need a 6' - 6'6" medium heavily, fact action rod ( A Loomis MB 784-4 is a great example of the type of rod we use)teamed that up with good quality spinning reels. Something like a 3500 Shimano Stradic or a 360 Penn Slammer spinning reel filled with #10-14 braided line is perfect.

Depending on the current you?ll need between a ? and a 2 oz - 8/0 or 10/0 lead head jig to get down in the strike zone. Put a BKD (bass kandy delight) on the hook and start jigging.

I've ruined for than a couple of goodLargemouth bass guys over the years. :D
