Ok after 2 years of my lady barking she cant sleep with my snoring I finally am trying this new mouth piece that my dentist is telling me has 100% success rates. It's call the sleep guard, they took impressions of my mouth yesterday and the device will be ready in three weeks. The concept is that if your lower jaw is extended out farther than your upper, and stays that way, it is almost impossible to snore. I'm not over weight, don't drink booze, have no sleep apnia (sp). so this isn't covered by my dental insurance.
Has anyone else used anything that was acceptable to keep the noise levels down? I fall asleep in like 5 minutes, my lady doesn't, so it really disrupts our sleep time. Either she or I will end up in different rooms to get decent sleep. It causes both of us moments that I just don't care to deal with anymore. Anyways let me know your thoughts please .

The 19.99 one might work, but it's way better to have one fitted. Certainly be more comfortable. It's supposed to work pretty well for plain vanilla snoring. If he has sleep apnea his wife already knows it. Pretty unmistakable, even if you've never seen it. The person will suddenly stop snoring, which means they have stopped breathing, for anything from 30 seconds to a minute and a half. However long it takes for your body to decide it's dying. Then there will be a massive gasp for air usually accompanied by a lot of thrashing, groaning and more gasps for oxygen.

My sister's husband was telling her how bad she snored and gasped and she didn't believe him until one night he set up a recorder without telling her. She listened to a few minutes of that and headed to her doctor to get set up with a CPAP.

Duct Tape and a plastic bag ........ use it tonight and you will never snore again........ you won't wake up either ......... a killer solution

I have to agree wit the comments above and get checked for sleep apnea........ I just tend to trust a medical doctor more then a dentist.......at least consult with your doctor.

I have cured my snoring. It was a long process and I had the same complaints from the wife.
Here is what I tried:
1) Breathe Right Strips: Made me louder
2) Sleep Study: Confirmed no Apnea
3) Uvulectomy: Hurt like hell and helped a little. Had to relearn how to swallow certain foods.
4) Cauderization slits in the soft palate: Interesting smell, burning flesh. Helped reduce it for 6 months, but my body has a remarkable habit of dissolving scar tissue.
5) Botox injections into the soft palate: Nothing burns like a chemical in your head you cannot reach. Helped for 1 year. Once again my body healed the scarring designed to draw up the soft palate.
6) Surgery: A very nice doc offered to remove my rotten tonsils... and while he was in there, removed the sagging and elongated soft palate. Result: Zero snoring and a return to REM sleep.

What I did not realize is that I was exhausted all the time from lack of REM. This is what can cause serious health issues over time... like water dissolving rock.

My advice: It's ok if you want to try something inexpensive, but don't expect it to work if you are a super heavy snore box like I was...

A friend of mine recommended a "pure sleep" device to me. Sounds very similar to what your dentist recommended but much cheaper. Visit their website (puresleep.com). I have tried it and IF you "fit" it correctly, it works like a charm (according to my admiral). Good luck.

Whats wrong with separate bedrooms? You both know where the other room is. I go to sleep early my wife hears me snore, I wake early I get to hear her snore.

I have used an relatively inexpensive ready made device similar, to your custom made piece. It dips in boiling water, then is supposed mold to your teeth.

It worked pretty good, but was about as comfortable, as sleeping with one of those plastic "six pack" can holders, stuffed in your mouth. it was tough to get a good mold fit, with the boiling water.

$50 verses $800, for a dentist custom fit.

Sleep apnea is becoming a whole new money making industry. Everyone I know who has been tested, had it. If you are a fat truck driver, the law makes you get tested and chances are good, you'll fail.

Well part of the first dentist visit was to first determine if I had sleep apnea, and I don't. I sleep very well, my mouth just tends to drop open, and then I snore. I'm not over weight either 6' tall 190 lbs, don't drink booze hardly ever. This is for her, I really don't have any sleep issues except keeping her up. My biggest concern is how comfortable this device will be and if it really works? Dentist says he has 100% success so I'm moving forward. I will post my results, maybe it will help others who have this issue.

Well part of the first dentist visit was to first determine if I had sleep apnea, and I don't.

I'd get a second opinion. Dentists ARE NOT permitted to diagnose sleep apnea.
Alcohol consumption and being overweight are not contributors for at least 1/2 of all sleep apnea sufferers.

You need overnight monitoring to truly rule it out.

Go to a somnologist. There is NO WAY to fully diagnose sleep apnea without a sleep study. Your dentist certainly cannot do it. Most of the men in my family have apnea and none of us are extremely overweight. I'm 5'8", 185 and I have a medium intensity case.

It's a very common, very dangerous problem and freight train snoring is the biggest red flag for it.

Agree, you need to have a sleep study done which a Dentist can NOT do. My father had it done and they had him overnight.

If I would have had issues with being tired, falling asleep during the day bla, bla the next step would have been a overnight stay, big difference. I get the fact that dentist is not a sleep apnea doctor, but remember, I didn't go there with a sleep apnea problem, I went there because I snore loud and keep her up. And a doctor that does sleep apnea, doesn't offer anything to stop snoring, except the c-pap so I think I'm solving my problem. Sorry if I misled anyone but this is just a noise issue.
