I have found the best way to stop it from smoking is take it's cigarettes away LOL. If they put fogging oil in the motor will smoke a lot could take a while to burn out.

Normal it won't all burn out some of it just runs out most carbed 2 stroke at an idle will expell unburned oil. Will look like a grayish sludge because of water mixed with it especially if they put a lot of oil in it.

strange , none of the 2 strokes I have owned ever spit oil out or built up a gray sludge.

Check your oil pump lever/ linkage to make sure it is still attatched properly,
if it comes off it will open all of the way to put plenty of oil in.
Other than that a bad seal maybe, but that would not put it into the cylinders to burn

If some of the cylinders are not fireing properly the unburnt oil and fuel wil come out the exhaust

Really a lot of posts on this site for the exact same problem not manufacturer specific . When a 2 stroke is cold it does not completely burn the fuel mixture. Unburned oil especially if it was fogged or they poured 2 stroke oil in the cylinders. Need to let it burn off and get it to operating temp. Not a problem just a side effect. If nobody ever had that happen they either have the only 100% clean 2 strokes I have ever heard or never noticed it. Will show up more after trolling a lot or on muffs as there is no water around the lower unit to wash it away. And if you don't believe that run the motor in a garbage can see what floats to the surface.

Had a 1990 60 hp johnson 2 cycle and the VRO malfunctioned and scored the top cylinder not bad enough to not be able to bore it out and rebuild which I did. From that point on I SH!t canned the VRO and just added oil to the gas. Ran extra oil in it as it is easier to replace plugs than rebuild however it did smoke more and oil tended to drip from carbs a little. She is still running strong 10 years after the rebuild

First this a yamaha forum. Now let me get this straight the vro pump mixes fuel in the pump itself comes out in one line to feed all three carbs. Somehow your pump by magic decided the top carb was not going to get oil. Your pump gave oil to the two bottom cylinders but skipped the top cyl even though they are all on the same line. Most common thing blamed on the vro was never caused by the vro. I see that in my shop all the time one cylinder burned instead of trying to find the cause blame the vro. And according to your math the motor ran 15yrs with the vro only 10 without.
