So I got an electric start 25hp Mariner and this is my fault but I have the motor on a stand and I put the muffs on because I was gonna run it and I have the throttle cables disconnected from the motor so I just got them zip tied to the throttle that has the key. I included a pic so you know what I mean. I hooked the battery up and I started cranking it and it cranked fast and normal but then I wasn’t paying attention and the ends of the throttle cables that are metal ending up touching the battery terminals while I was cranking and they sparked.
I then took them off and tried cranking again and it just cranks super slow like the battery is dead I took the battery off and hooked it up to my other outboard and cranked it over to make sure it wasn’t the battery and it wasn’t. Battery is fine. So then I left it alone for a day and I came back today and tried to start it again and it did the same super slow cranking over but then it started smoking. I took a video so you can see what’s going on. Did the starter get fried when the metal touched the battery terminals?
